Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a grappling-based martial art. The central theme is how to control a resisting opponent, using minimum effort and strength, in ways that force him to tap (submit). It also teaches how to take down an opponent from the standing position to the ground using judo and wrestling techniques. At SXM BJJ, Japanese judo terms are used to describe takedowns and many ne-waza (ground) techniques.
On the ground, we learn how to use leverage and technique to dominate and ultimately submit our opponent. Size, strength and aggression can be overcome with proper technique. The study of Jiu Jitsu brings a deep understanding of the workings and range of our human body.
